Hamburg/Germany

Germany's "Gate to the World" and Port City of Superlatives

The hanseatic city

City state for day dreamers and night owls

It is the city with more canals than Amsterdam and Venice combined and it has over 2300 bridges. As a city-state, it is independent and is home not only to the second most important port in Europe, the world-famous Reeperbahn and the beautiful Binnenalster, but also to one of the best football clubs in Germany, Hamburger SV.

Tips and info for your stay in Hamburg

Hamburg

Culture and big city life

Those who come to Hamburg for the first time must see the Speicherstadt and the Landungsbrücken. The harbor tour is ideal to get to know Hamburg from the water, because you can admire the unique architecture of the houses. In addition you will get an insight of both larger and smaller waterways. The Binnenalster offers a wonderful central place to relax and have a stroll. The famous "Michl" is a must as well as the exuberant nightlife on the Reeperbahn.

Shopping in Hamburg

A paradise for relaxed shopping

Having a walk in the Alsterarkaden or to experiencing Gucci and Co. on the Neue Wall, listening to the noisy bargaining at the fish market or learning more about Europe in the Europa Passage – Hamburg has it all! Walk along the Jungfernstieg to relax and forget the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Fashion enthusiasts will find trendy designer workshops in the Karoviertel and look for real rarities on St. Pauli.

Hamburg´s cusine

Fish or meat? It doesn't matter, if it is delicious!

Contrary to what many people think, there is much better food in Hamburg than the name might promise, even though you are sure to find a tasty "hamburger" or two. Visitors should definitely try one - or preferably all - of Hamburg's typical dishes - pears, beans and bacon, eel soup or the well known fish sandwich. The relaxed cafés in the Schanzenviertel and the barbecues on the beach along the Elbe invite you to linger after a day of walking for miles in the city.

A break or a party?

More than enough traditional events and nightlife

Every year, around 1.5 million people celebrate the Hafengeburtstag - the largest harbor festival in the world - on the almost four-kilometer-long "Hafenmeile" along the Elbe between HafenCity and the museum harbor Övelgönne. In addition, there is also the annual Christmas market in Hamburg and let’s not forget that Hamburg is the home of the “Lion King” musical. For those who just want to enjoy the nightlife, St. Pauli is the place to be.
